I founded SUMOOD™ on the belief that knowledge is both a privilege and a responsibility. What began as an idea has grown into a community dedicated to giving every child the strongest start in life. Bringing together voices from different cultures and disciplines has shown me the power of compassion grounded in science.
 

Our Youth Voices initiative is especially meaningful to me. Watching young people translate complex research into stories and messages that inspire others reminds me that advocacy begins with empathy, not expertise. SUMOOD continues to teach me that real change grows from awareness, collaboration, and care.

Serving as president of the board of SUMOOD gives me both reason and purpose.

I’ve always believed that the true measure of strength lies in our ability to lift others - especially children, whose potential is too often limited by circumstances. Every act of support, every project we build, is a step towards restoring hope and giving young minds the chance to dream again. It’s not just about giving back - it’s about standing up for those who deserve a future as bright as their spirit.

Being part of Sumood gives a deeper sense of purpose to my societal contribution as a scientist.

It connects my research to children and families who are most in need of timely, evidence-based interventions that support optimal developmental outcomes. A core mission of my research identity is to understand how science can be steered to meet the needs of children raised in adversity and to help offset developmental disadvantages through culturally-sensitive action. I am deeply inspired by Sumood’s philanthropic drive and community-centered vision. Being on the ground with Sumood for our latest project in Zanzibar has reshaped my perception of the world and reinforced the core values that guide my personal and professional life.
